The “other sheep”

Standard

“A third reason why Jesus is the Good Shepherd is that He draws and gathers His lost sheep to Himself. He says, ‘I have other sheep which are not of this fold; I must bring them also (v.16). This allegory began with Jesus calling His sheep out of the spiritual deadness of apostate Israel. When He says that He as ‘other sheep’ that are not of this fold, He refers to Gentile sheep that are outside the fold of Israel. Jesus must also draw them to Himself. They will come from ‘every bribe and tongue and people and nation’ and comprise a number that is ‘myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands.’ (Rev.5:9,11)

“Come to Me” says the Lord Jesus

Standard

“Have you ever taken that decisive step of faith and come all the way to saving faith in this shepherd? You must respond to the voice of the Good Shepherd. You must come to Him by faith and entrust your life to Him. The Bible says ‘Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Rom.10:13). He invites you to come to Him by entering through the narrow gate. The gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and few are those who find it. Take that step of faith and come to the Good Shepherd of His sheep.”

Comfort and Consolation

Standard

“This is my final comfort and consolation in this world. My only hope of arriving in glory, lies in the fact that the whole of my salvation is God’s work . . . This is my final comfort and consolation in this world. IT is grace at the beginning, grace at the end. So that when you and I come to lie upon our deathbeds, the one thing that should comfort and help and strengthen us there, is the thing that helped us at the beginning, not what we have been, not what we have done, but the grace of God in Jesus Christ our Lord. The Christian life starts with grace. It must continue with grace. it ends with grace – grace, wondrous grace. By the grace of God, I am what I am, yet not I , but the grace of God which was with me.”

D Martyn Lloyd Jones, as quoted in the book “High King of Heaven”, edited by Dr John MacArthur

The Incarnation

Standard

” ‘The Incarnation of the Son of God.’ For many of us long-time believers, that kind of theological shorthand has become so familiar that we cease to be amazed at the truth it describes. The eternal, preexistent Word – ever with God, ever God Himself – became flesh and tabernacled among sinners (John 1:1-14). It is rightly called the miracle of all miracles. The infinite, eternal, self-existent, self-sufficient, almighty God made Himself nothing by taking on the nature of finite, temporal, dependent, mortal humanity – without shedding His divine nature (Phil.2:5-8). The immutable God became what He was not, while never ceasing to be what He was. The Irish Reformer James Usher rightly said that the incarnation is ‘the highest pitch of God’s wisdom, goodness, power, and glory.’ Pastor and author Mark Jones has written, ‘The Incarnation is God’s greatest wonder, one that no creature could ever have imagined. God himself could not perform a more difficult and glorious work. It has justly been called the miracle of all miracles.’ “
